چکیده

The microwave spectrum of toluene * SO2 was observed with a pulsed beam Fouriertransform microwave spectrometer. The spectrum displays a-, b-, and c-dipole transitions. The transitions occur as doublets arising from the internal rotation of the methyl group. The transitions were assigned using the principal-axis method (PAM) internal rotation Hamiltonian with centrifugal distortions. Assuming a threefold symmetry for the internal rotation potential, the barrier height was determined as V,=83.236(2) cm-‘. The torsionalrotational spectra of toluene-CD, * SO2 and toluene-ds * SO, were also assigned. Additional small splittings of the c-dipole transitions for the normal species and toluene-CD3 * SO2 suggest a reorientation tunneling motion of SOZ with respect to the aromatic plane. The moment of inertia data show that the two monomer units are separated by R,,=3.370( 1) A, with the SOZ located above the aromatic ring. The projection of the C, axis of SO2 on the aromatic plane makes an angle of 7=47.0( 1)” with the C, axis of toluene. The dipole moment of the complex is pur= 1.869(27) D.

Microwave spectrum, structure, dipole moment, and deuterium nuclear quadrupole coupling constants of the acetylene--sulfur dioxide van der Waals complex

Thirty-three Qand c-dipole transitions of the acetylene-SO, van der Waals complex have been observed by Fourier transform microwave spectroscopy and fit to rotational constants A = 7176.804(2) MHz, B = 2234.962( 1) MHz, C = 1796.160( 1) MHz. The complex has C, symmetry with the C,H, and SO, moieties both straddling an a-c symmetry plane (i.e., only the S atom lies in the plane). The two subunit...

Towards the complete analysis of the rotational spectrum of (CH3)3SnCl

The rotational spectrum of the symmetric top trimethyl tin chloride (CH3)3SnCl has been studied using a pulsed molecular beam Fourier transform microwave spectrometer in the frequency range from 3 to 24 GHz. The spectrum is exceedingly complicated by the internal rotation motions of the three equivalent methyl tops, the high number of Snand Cl-isotopes and the quadrupole hyperfine structure of ...

Microscopic Parameters in the Excited State of Toluene and Some of Its Haloderavatives

The Ultraviolet-visible (UV) spectra of toluene, ortho-bromo and para-bromo toluene in different solvents have been studied. The electric dipole moments and polarizabilities in the molecular excited electronic states were determined. It was found that the electric dipole moments for the excited states (µ*) and the ground states (µ) of these compounds are equal, and the change in dipole moment i...

Unraveling the internal dynamics of the benzene dimer: a combined theoretical and microwave spectroscopy study.

We report a combined theoretical and microwave spectroscopy study of the internal dynamics of the benzene dimer, a benchmark system for dispersion forces. Although the extensive ab initio calculations and experimental work on the equilibrium geometry of this dimer have converged to a tilted T-shaped structure, the rich internal dynamics due to low barriers for internal rotation have remained la...

Determination of a High Potential Barrier Hindering Internal Rotation from the Analysis of the Ground State Spectrum: The Case of Ethyl Cyanide

Microwave spectroscopy is a very accurate method to determine the potential barrier restricting the rotation of a methyl group [1 —3] . The finite barrier hindering internal rotation normally splits each rotational line into two components. This splitting depends strongly on the height of the barrier. Generally the barrier is determined from the splittings in the ground torsional state. But for...
